Course description
Emergency Response Fundamentals provides the essential knowledge and practical skills required to respond safely and effectively during the initial stages of an emergency.
The course emphasizes responder safety, scene assessment, hazard recognition, emergency communication, and basic patient care. Students receive foundational training in First Aid and CPR, including the recognition of life-threatening conditions, initial care of illness and injury, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and the effective activation of emergency medical services.
A dedicated infection-control component addresses exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials. Students learn standard precautions, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, barrier protection, safe handling of contaminated materials, exposure prevention, basic decontamination practices, and post-exposure actions.
The course also introduces scene control, resource requests, bystander management, casualty handover, and coordination with professional emergency responders.
Emergency Response Fundamentals serves as the entry-level foundation for the broader AERI training and certification system and is appropriate for personnel who may be required to provide immediate assistance before advanced rescue or medical resources arrive.
